Don't Miss This Amazing I-15 Detour!
We’re unbelievably fortunate to live where we do with its proximity to so much natural beauty. It would be a shame to take it for granted…
One of the great off the beaten track hikes in Southern Utah has to be the trek through Kanarraville Canyon to Kanarra Falls. Minutes off I-15 just south of Cedar City is the little town of Kanarraville. East of town a few blocks is the well marked parking lot ($10 - park here, shorten your hike, and support the town), well worth the fee to support the efforts and maintenance of this gem of an outing. Small price to pay for having your mind blown! Here you’ll find the trailhead and beginning of your beautiful adventure. The first third is along an old, mostly dusty dirt road and path. Don’t worry, you’ll be cooled off soon enough as you enter the ever narrowing canyon and begin to criss cross the watery stream bed. The temperature of the few inches of water you’ll eventually be in constantly is pretty chilly, making this hike best in Summer. This is the point where the canyon becomes a slot leading up to the falls. By far the prettiest part of your journey, these few hundred yards are simply amazing! Kanarra Falls pour off here in a spectacular display and provide a magical spot for photography, or the chilly shower if you dare. A ladder (take it easy here) is just a few feet next to the falls leading to a topside view, and the continuation of your adventure to another falls and swimming hole. Wear water shoes, bring a snack, and take your time along this nearly 5 mile round trip exciting escapade. The towering redrock all around provides an incredible feeling of being in a much more major attraction, akin to Zion’s Narrows. It’s the perfect locale to break up a trip along the interstate to and from other experiences along this north south corridor.
Get out and get going!
